Farmer's Market

Conner and I go to the Farmer's Market at least twice a week here. I know they have them in different places around the city on weekend's but the have one really close to us at Rockefeller Center. We've enjoyed lots of peaches and some really great breads as well. They have so many things to choose from and even have wine tasting there! It ends next week so we've been enjoying lots of peaches this week!

I think....I was mistaken for a New Yorker the other day. I was asked for the nearest grocery store and I knew it! And pointed them in the right direction! I'm totally fitting in here!

This weekend we were planning on going to Little Italy for our anniversary but we'll be hunkering down here to ride out Hurricane Irene. We're loaded up on diapers and wipes and water....now would have been a nice time to have food storage, bummer.

Park Hoppers

This weekend we decided to check out some of the cities parks. Beware...if you don't like pictures, skip this post....there are lots of them coming your way.

Our first stop was

I find it so bizzare that people go to parks here to sunbathe. I would only do that in the privacy of my backyard...although I will say that during my teenage years I know one of my neighbors used to spy on me through the fence. Creep. Anyway...this park was full of them!

This art work is on display for the summer. It's a greek god and is supposed to be symbolic of peace and serenity in the midst of the city.

In case you can't read the sign, this tree was a gift to the city from President James Madison when they opened the park in 1836.

The park is right across the stree from this little beauty. The Flat Iron Building.

Next Stop

Hello George.

And a nice little shot of the Empire State Building.

I'd show you some of the shots of the park...but let's be honest, they all start to look the same, at least to you. We noticed a huge difference in the type of people who hang out at each park. It's so fun to people watch.

And our last park of the day was...

That fountain was full of adults and kids alike....frolicking.

We attempted to get a family picture...Conner got Jon right in the eye.

This guy was totally like the lady on Mary Poppins. Covered in pigeons. This picture looks like they are attacking him, but they were just sitting and enjoying the bread he was feeding them. 'Tuppence a bag' anyone?

And my favorite part of the day was listening to this guy

He was playing under this huge arch, and the acoustics were incredible. Sarah and Beth would have died. Jon and I agreed that we would go and listen to him for date night instead of going to the symphony.

And that was our day park hopping. I can't wait to see more of the city.

P.S Here's a little something to keep the grandparents happy. He loves New York.

Our day at the park

The other day Conner and I took in a day at the park. He loves being outside, and of course, loves all the attention he gets anywhere we go.

We had a few ants visit our blanket. Conner was very focused on trying to pick them up.

I enjoyed people watching. Especially a weird guy who was doing some sort of yoga. He must have been in some sort of zen state because he was making a fool of himself in front of a lot of people. I was doing my best not to laugh out loud. He was very entertaining.I tried to take pictures of him, but he was too close and I was being obvious....and when people catch you trying to take their picture, it's embarassing.

Conner was pooped so we headed home. I'm sure this won't be the last of our days at the park.

Laundry Day

As you can tell my first attempt at laundry here didn't go as well as I'd hoped. When you can only pay with a $10 bill, I didn't have enough cash to use the dryer. So Conner and I hung out with the drying laundry all day. The first try at anything is usually a bust, so at least I know how to get it better the second time!

These streets will make you feel brand new

The view from our apartment

After months of anticipation we are finally here. The cross country plane ride with a baby turned out pretty well. We sat by a bunch of teenagers who at times were louder and more annoying than Conner. After a great taxi ride from our friend Manjit, who invited us over to his house in Queens for some Indian tea, we checked in and unloaded our life and settled in.

This morning consisted of our first grocery shopping trip, which I thought was very successful and I am happy that the store is so close. We met a nice man in the elevator who told us that he had a 3 week old baby and they like to order their diapers on Diapers.com . Apparently it is same day deliver here in the city. I think I'll be taking advantage of that. Also, they have grocery delivery as well, all of this online ordering will be new for me. I'm not a big online shopper, but apparently will become one.

Conner seems to be taking it all in. He gets 'ooh's' and 'aah's' on the street. He's a pretty big hit in the little baby carrier that we have.

We plan on hitting one of our favorite Cuban places on Saturday and strolling in the park this weekend....

Admit it, you're jealous.

18 Months have come and gone...

In 5 days these two are coming home. To some the last year and a half has gone by quickly. Most comments I get from people are "They are coming home already?" or "That went by so fast!" Not so much for me...and I feel pretty safe saying it didn't go by quickly for either of my sisters.

Right now they are enjoying themselves by snorkeling in The Great Barrier Reef..lucky ducks!

When they say that not only are the missionaries blessed but the families of the missionaries as well...I can now say that I know that is true. Nothing miraculous, but when you look back at the last 18 months, there is no denying it.

I remember the day they left. I cried a lot. I'm pretty sure I'll cry just as much when I see them get off that place. We can't wait. Please let the next few days go by fast.

Stroller Suggestions

What good is a blog if you can't ask questions to others? So here I am asking for your advice. I'm looking for a good lightweight stroller to take to New York. I've done some research but I think that the opinion of other mom's is better than any review I will read. Here are a few things that I'm looking for.

Lightweight and compact for easy travel and set up.

Storage

Large Canopy

5 point harness (Since Conner is still little and can't sit up yet)

Parent Tray (Not as important as the others since you can buy stroller accessories)

If there are other things that I need to look for let me know!

So give me your opinion please! Tell me what to buy or what not to buy!

Thanks!
